Mermaid Experience & Photoshoot on Maui

The listing is short on schedule detail because the product is genuinely flexible: you and the operator agree on a location first, then the hour is built around it. Three parts matter.

First, the fitting

You meet Mermaid Jules at the agreed spot and get fitted from a collection of 75 swimmable tails plus accessories. That number is the widest costume range on this site by a distance, and it is what makes the toddler-through-adults promise real: most mermaid operators stock a dozen adult tails and improvise for kids. Fitting, accessories rental and help with posing and styling are all in the base price, so nobody needs to arrive knowing how to arrange a monofin for a camera.

The one wardrobe item that is not provided is a top: Bikini tops are not included, except for toddlers and for bridal Veils & Tails shoots if wanted. Wear your own swimwear under your clothes and bring a change of clothes for afterwards.

Beach, pool, or your own rental

The location menu is unusually broad. The default is a beach photo shoot, and the meeting point line on the listing reads, in full: "We will choose which beach together before the photoshoot and meet there." The listing is filed under Wailea, and the calm, sandy South Maui shoreline is the natural fit for tail work, the same golden-hour stretch our Makena beach portrait session uses. But you can also book it as a pool party or a pool shoot at your home, hotel, vacation rental, swim club or cabana.

If your party includes a nervous swimmer or a toddler, a rental pool removes every variable the ocean adds; if you want the postcard, pick the beach and let Jules steer you to the right one for the day's conditions.

What you take home

You keep 10 or more digital images of the session. The listing does not print a delivery window, so ask Jules at the shoot when the gallery will land; it also does not cap the count at ten, and the operator's own site leads with full professional galleries. If the tail wins you over, there is an option to buy the mermaid tail and monofin as a souvenir, and smaller keepsakes, tails and stickers, are sold on the spot.

For scale: a swimmable fabric tail with monofin retails around a hundred dollars and up, so factor that in before your kid falls in love with one mid-shoot.

The per-person math favors groups

The $240 covers the first mermaid. Every extra participant is $50 per person, and dogs and babes in arms are free. So a solo session is $240, a pair is $290, and a family of four lands at $390, which works out under $100 a head with costumes, posing help and the photo set included.

That is a different pricing shape from the flat per-group portrait sessions on this site: the family beach session with Local Hawaii Photographers charges $397 for a group of up to fifteen and hands over every frame, while this one prices per body but includes the whole costume production. Small groups do well here; large ones should run both numbers.

Bridal parties and the family dog

Two options hide in the listing's fine print. If you are getting married, the operator runs Veils & Tails bachelorette shoots, one of the two cases where tops are provided. And there are 3 mer-dog costumes, so the dog can join the photos in costume at no charge.

Neither shows up as a bookable option at checkout; both are arranged with the operator when you settle the location, so mention them early.

Weather, cancellation and accessibility

The experience requires decent weather. If the operator cancels for rain, you are offered a different date or a full refund, and on top of that the standard policy gives free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance with reserve-now-pay-later available. The listing marks the session not suitable for wheelchair users, while stating that most travelers can otherwise participate.

Swimming is genuinely optional: posing happens on dry sand as easily as in the water, which is why toddlers and non-swimmers are fine here, unlike the Turtle Town snorkel, which turns away non-swimmers and anyone under ten.

This is a new listing with a single verified booking review, a five-star from April 2025 quoted below. The operator, Mermaid Memories Maui & Santa Cruz, runs an established mermaid photography business across two locations, so the thin review count reads as a new marketplace listing rather than a new business. Still, one review is a small sample; if depth of third-party feedback is what you buy on, the most-reviewed session in our catalog is the Turtle Town trip with 53 reviews at 4.7.

Book it if

You want a photoshoot that doubles as the day's activity, not just a record of it, and the people in your group span wildly different ages.

• You want a bachelorette shoot with a theme nobody else in the group chat has done
